Whew! Home safe and sound
Home today from Christmas vacation and what a ride it's been!
En route, supposedly via London, re-routed via Toronto due to heavy fog in London and then stayed in Toronto 2 days due to airport closure at DIA brought on by 2 feet of snow! Blessing in disguise: 2 days with our dear friends in Toronto whom we keep hoping to visit en route to US, but it keeps being too expensive!
Finally arriving in Denver ~48 hours beyond plan, had a wonderful Christmas there including a day skiing in Breckenridge with my brother-in-law the Finn -- my sister being sick that day :-( -- some delicious meals prepared by various family members and the requisite Opening of Packages. And Singing of Carols.
We also had a great though very brief visit to my other brother-in-law and his wife up in Portland, Oregon, which turns out to be a really neat city which I would indeed like to visit again.
Two more days in Denver marked by an impending snowstorm and the threat of more delays… but this turned out to be only just enough to cause us to miss our connection in London and spend a bonus ~4+ hours in lovely Terminal 4 of Heathrow – fortunately accompanied by good books, Café Costa and plenty of shopping (ahem!) opportunities all around. Returned to a cold house, very happy-to-see-us kitties and finally a warm bath. Mmm!
To summarize, ‘twas great to be away and ‘tis good to be back home.
